Summer Nights

It is about 9pm. Tonight was one of those perfect evenings. I picked up steak, some fave cheeses and a boule for the soft cheese at the farmers market. When I got home I marinated the steak a bit, chopped up some patty-pan squash, baby potatoes, red onion and garlic tossed with salt and olive oil and let it sit for a bit before roasting. I finished off some white wine while P got the grill going and we munched on bread and cheese. We had dinner outside listening to Otmar Leibert (Flamenco music) and drank a nice Zin. The background; crickets, cicadas and other assorted creatures (including our backyard bats who I love). We went inside when G-dog became too interested in those nocturnal creatures.

Now I am listening to the neighbor kids shriek as they play hide and go seek or some sort of in the dark tag game. I can't help but smile because I remember doing that well past the age of...ahem...maturity and loving every minute of it. ;) It is a PERFECT summer evening.

Great post and I liked your nod to larking about well beyond the age of maturity!

Thanks for your smiley line at my place about the lack of shoes!

I wish we had bats and crickets, sob.

What a lush Friday night, Scargosun. We had veggie curry with cashew nuts, celery, carrots, potatoes and black cardamon seeds.

Have a fabby Saturday.

There aren't any mosquitoes where you live?

That sounds wonderful. I love it when the weather starts to get that very first chill in the air. Still a long time away for me, but I know it's closer than it was last week.

Hey there!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Can't wait to check out more of yours! Capes are definitely a challenge in some aspects, but awesome in others. So I hear ya!

Don't you just love those kind of summer nights! :) I keep meaning to ask you where you go in Cape Cod. My first Cape experience was 3 years ago and LOVED it. We stayed in Wellfleet at this cottage that used to be the childhood home of my friend. I LOVED the Cape so much, I brought another friend back to Wellfleet the next summer..we ventured up to P-town and happened upon the Drag Queen Festival-very fun actually!! I think we were the only straight people there!:) We ate at Arnold's...spent time at the beach at the National Seashore near Orleans! Breathtaking. Just wondering where you go and where you would recommend. It is only a 10 hour drive from where I live in Canada!Happy rest of the summer to you!

A bunch of friends and I used to play flashlight tag at night in the summertime - we all wore black sweatpants and sweatshirts, and we would go through people's yards playing this game ... as predicted, the cops were called on us a couple of times, as we looked like burglars.

I loved the endless hours of twilight when I was a kid. Back in the 50s-early 60s, families were huge and we had zillions of kids in our neighborhood. We'd spend hours out playing Hide 'n' Seek or spend the night sleeping outside in our sleeping bags. Bliss...just like your evening sounded!

I love my children, don't get me wrong. I love them a LOT, but just reading this makes me long for those days when it was just us, me and Kd.

Sigh.
