Crackberry Friday: G-dog!

I took this pic on our way up to the Cape. G-dog is SO good on long trips as long as she can lay down. She's like a little kid in that she'll fall asleep as long as it's highway driving.
I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you all, unless you are a new visitor, that we adopted G-dog a year ago. We always knew when we brought a dog into our family that we would adopt. I was reminded of how important it is to consider adoption when I was out on Wed night. I was at a pet store (supplies, not selling pets) and they had some dogs there that were up for adoption with the foster parents. There was a little white and light brown pit puppy who was insanely cute. He was a mix and you could tell that he had a great personality; friendly and cuddly and would make a great addition to a family. Trouble is, he is tagged with that name: 'pit bull'. I really hope he gets adopted despite that strike against him. The only reason my heart didn't completely break was because he seemed to have a really nice foster Mommy. :)

PS: I have NOTHING against pure bred dogs or GOOD breeders. We had a Golden Retriever growing up and a German Shepard, both from excellent breeders. Keeping the breed strong by making sure the gene pool isn't too shallow is something good breeders do and I respect that.

Gee, I never looked at it from that perspective. Breeders do have that responsibility, don't they?

I adopted ours about 3 years ago, and would continue to adopt. It just broke my heart to see needy dogs out there and I'd adopt 100 of them if I could.

My fiance and I rescued a dog in March 2007. It has been one of the most fulfilling experiences in our lifetimes. I couldn't agree more with you about adoption. In fact, I blogged about the volunteers at the rescue facilities a couple days ago.

Good dog G.

Every critter we have on "The Farm" is used (except the chickens, we got them brand new.)
Thats just how we roll : )

I love a good breeder. One of my dogs was from a less than good breeder and I'm glad I got her so she didn't end up having puppies. I love her insanely, but she's got a significant underbite and should never be bred. My other dog was a gift from my husband and is from a breeder that took her responsiblities seriously. I won't breed her either because there's so many dogs available, it isn't like she'd be filling a need. So many times I hear people say, "oh just one litter so we can have one of her children" with no regard for what might happen to the rest of the litter.

We had a Belgian Sheppherd growing up - she was really cute ...

I think if we decide to get a dog someday, it'll be a mutt from the SPCA - I'd feel like I'm saving a life that way.

Yea, for adoption. All our 5 kitties were adopted from animal rescues.

You get to go to the Cape! I love LOVE LOVE the Cape! My sister used to live in Boston so I've been there twice. Once to Martha's Vineyard (which felt like the trip of a lifetime).

G-dog is too cute and SO lucky he gets to go to the beach.

My cats are the same way. As long as they have a place to lay down and curl up, they're great on trips.

She is a gorgeous dog! It looks like she's in heaven riding in the car.

If we do get a dog, we will adopt.

My husband had an old pitbull he had from the time he was a kid, and he was never mean or agressive around my children (they were 1 and 4)...we had 3 kids together by the time that dog died of old age and he was never agressive. We now have a pitbull puppy. I dont think its the breed, but the owners that determine how a puppy turns out. It is a lot like parenting.

I love that second picture. It's a dog's life. We foster stray dogs -- that means hubby tells me I can't have one and I keep bringing them home anyway.

Years ago, I had a cat that got attacked and killed by a pit bull. The dog was a "nice dog" and had never shown any aggression before. The owner kept saying "but she's so friendly...she's so sweet." I didn't ask him to put her down and last year, I heard that she had killed another 3 cats before he finally had her euthanized. I always hear people say that pit bulls aren't inherently aggressive, but I don't believe it. My neighbor has a pit bull and yesterday, he let the dog peek into our window. He said, "get the kitty, Woo!" I freaked out on him a bit. Oops.

I would like to notify you that you need to keep a good eye on G-dog because one day, when you least expect it, one of your favorite blog friends may come by and take her for a "road trip" that involved Spokane, WA and her living with me forever...

Seriously though, she looks like SUCH a doll.

As you know we adopted kitties. We are on too busy a street for a dog.

G dog is livin' THE life!
