When you have a husband who is 34 and still plays sports like he's a decade younger, you are more than likely to make trips to the ER. That is what I am currently doing. P took a hockey ball to the eye. We might get sent downtown to the eye hospital but I hope not because that would mean he probably did something to his orbital bone...and wouldn't you know it, our eye doc friend is in a hospital downtown with his wife (one of my best friends) who just gave birth to their 3rd son... EARLY! Thanks G!
Update: P is fine. Swollen but fine. He has a skin split that didn't need stiches and he broke his nose. We'll see how bad it is when the swelling does down...He would not let me post a pic of him for Crackberry Friday and...for now...I will respect his wishes.

Would You Buy This?
I will continue with the Cape stuff but this has to be said....
Ok, this has been bothering me for a couple weeks. There is an...um...adult store in this area that is advertising a huge sale on their "sensual" movies (not hating, quoting, b/c I think it's funny that they don't just say 'porn'). It is a great deal. The are 2 for $15 and the 3rd is free! You'd think that people would be banging down the doors.
One drawback...
They are previously viewed...
Um...excuse me but...would you REALLY want to touch the DVD covers those come in (pun intended)?

Too Much Wine Night...or...Pick the Date for Lobster Night More Carefully
As much as I enjoy my cold beverages, this year my stomach was not liking them very much for some reason (No, Carrie, not pregnant). Try as I might to achieve that vacation buzz, it eluded me. I really didn't care too much, I was on the Cape. The air was intoxicating enough...until Thursday...
If you recall, I wrote a post about how I was starting to get edgy now that my time was half up there. So I decided to find a wine I like to drink and relax a little and hopefully my stomach would not complain. I also decided that this night should be our annual Lobster Night. I figured some good food and wine would lift my spirits.
I grabbed a bottle of Big House White, something I keep on hand at home for those nights when you don't want to crack open something that costs more than $10 and stuck it in the fridge for later.
Now, I am usually willing to take full blame for when I over-do it with the alcoholic beverages. I have free will and a working brain. BUT...the cottage is not equipped with normal wine glasses. They have these tiny, cordial looking size glasses. What does this mean? You fill them higher and drink them faster. B A D If there were normal size glasses there, I would have been perfectly fine. No, really, I would have...even after the bottle or so I consumed.
I proceeded to finish my meal, further put a dent in my bottle and then watch Ocean's 13 with the fam. The fam never mentioned that I was getting a tad tipsy, they only told me the next day that I was laughing and pointing out obvious things in the movie. *hangs head in shame*
Now, I am not sure of the cost of a Lobster Dinner where you are but we were on the Cape, we were tourists and we were not equipped to make our own Lobster Dinner. So we paid $36 per person for a feast of clam chowder, a pound of clams, a 1&14lb lobster, cole slaw and corn on the cob. It was delicious for about 5 hours. You see where this is going, don't you?
Yep, right in the porcelain god.
Friday, I wasted valuable Cape time EXTREMELY hung over and since there was no Mickey D's in sight, I begged Peter to get me home fries from Grumpy's. They were almost as good as the lobster.

Beach Beard Contest
When we go to the Cape it is not so much a romantic getaway for P and I. I am completely fine with this considering that it is my place and I need my me time while I am there. So, it is extremely convenient that my brother, T and his friends, J and A are there as well. P, as I have explained is a child at heart (to put it in the nicest terms possible) so being able to 'play' with 3 other big kids is vacation in itself.
This year, in addition to eating too much at Grumpy's on an almost daily basis, bocce tournaments, trackball and Halo (yes, P brought the XBox) they had a "Beach Beard" contest. Now, a week for most people, is not a long time to grow a beard. They realized this on about Thursday and decided that maybe they should create an interesting beard rather than just any ole' beard. So they decided to go combination redneck/guido. This was the end result for T and P (J and A shaved earlier that day before I was able to get a pic.
Nice huh. Here's a close up of P...
You can see how it was very difficult to resist his advances.

Back and None Too Happy About It.
Ok. That is an exaggeration. I meant everything I said in yesterday's post but it was nice to FINALLY (stupid, stupid traffic) come home to a clean house and the sounds of late summer. Today I am catching up and believe me, I have a TON to do but just wanted to give you a little teaser of stories/pics about my vaca that I will be posting:
Beach Beard Contest
Too Much Wine Night
G-dog Attacking Birds
Men Being Boys
And much much more!
Seriously, I'll post some pics when I get them uploaded, I promise. I'll probably even do it before I unpack.
I also missed you guys!
PS I posted the pics I was unable to upload due to the pos Mac I was using.

pain
The inevitble has happened. We have crossed the bridge and on our way back to PA. I siad good bye to that part of my soul that lives on the rocky beach and allowd the tears to fall as I felt the rest of my body ripped away. For those of you that think I am being overly dramatic, I really don't care. It is beyond the comprehension of me at times as well. The only cure is to move there and believe me, I have been trying to make that work in my head for a very long time. It will happen, I just need it to me much sooner than later for my own sanity.

Crackberry Friday: Smoke
Picture it, P, T and A relaxing on the weathered gray deck, leaning on the white painted railing, chatting quietly as if loud noises might chase away the cigar smoke curling around their heads. The night is dark, the air is cool and slightly damp. Their brows in a state of relaxation not possible any other time but right here, right now.
My Grandfather was a chain cigar smoker and my Dad enjoyed cigars as well. Both enjoyed smoking them out on the deck in the evening. It was a very always a comforting smell to me. Knowing that Dad was relaxing (he like me found it hard to do). I think it was when I same him most relaxed. Sometimes he would read a book if it was still light out but most of the time he would sit in one of the old captain's chairs and enjoy the evening cool.
P enjoys cigars and my brother T does as well and I like the fact that they seem to be continuing a tradition or maybe even paying homage to Grampy and Dad. Grampy after all, was the person who made coming to the Cape possible in the first place and Dad continued it.

Halfway Point
I get edgy every year about this time when I am here. I have the sense that my time here is half over and my heart begins to hurt. I wander the cottage aimlessly, looking for something to occupy my mind so that I don't think about the next few days. I realize that I am supposed to live in the moment and I am working on it but here, where I know that I 'belong' more than anywhere on earth, the pull and the heartache of leaving is too close to push away.
Since I was a very little girl and I realized what it meant to me, I have cried as we crossed the bridge to the mainland. I still do. This is the one place where my emotions run unchecked, I've less control over them than I do anywhere else. I realize that having something like that is precious. Some people wish or search for it their whole lives and never find it. I have found it but is it something that I should look towards making permanent or should it remain a place I visit? I have struggled with this for years and hopefully someday, I will find my answer because for the moment, as much as I love my time here, time now feels like my enemy.

Sometimes I need to Be Reminded...
PSA: I am not ignoring you guys. I just can't comment from my Blackberry. Right now I am sitting outside a library, butt going numb so I can't stay long. Now on to the program...
That is where my lovely bloggy friends come into play. As a read your comments this morning, I was reminded to ENJOY my vacation. Thank you for that little reminder.
There are other reminders if I let myself see them. Like right now, I am sitting outside the Dennis Public Library and the bell from the church is pealing out the hours. It is quite peaceful. The birds are chirping and although it's overcast, the breeze is pleasant and I hold a little bit of hope that this will clear up a bit so I can get in some beach time.

My first Bloggy Friend Meeting!
Yea!!! I got to meet Sue from As Cape Cod Turns yesterday! We met at her home and I got to meet her G-dog! She was also very nice and gave me a pretty bracelet and magnet of my fav flowers, hydrangeas (she took the pic on the magnet!) to mark my visit. What did I get her? Um....it's sitting at home...probably next to the sneakers I forgot to pack. :( Anyway, we had a lovely time. We went and picked up sandwiches (best Thanksgiving sandwich EVER!) and drinks and then we headed to picnic tables literally on the sea wall not far from the fishing docks. I will post pics but Sue will probably beat me to it. I also got to meet her sister and her Mom and her daughter, all great and fun people. I really wish I had known them sooner because we would have had a blast together all these years I've been coming up. Oh, she also gave me the BEST lobster I have ever had! Right off the boat! I also have a picture of him (RIP).
I think one of the funniest things we talked about was how we were describing to friends/family who we were going to meet that day. "I met this person on the internet." seems to still have negative connotations and will get you odd looks.
We are hopefully going to get together later in the week, maybe coax Kathy from Kathy Likes Pink away as soon as she gets here on Friday. :)

112
No it's not the number of posts I am on. It is the amount of steps from my house to this...
You would normally see a pic here but because this Mac is a pos, I will have to figure out how to post it later. It is a pic of the top of the stairs to the rocky beach and it is where my soul lives.
Bear with me on the blogging. Last year there was wireless access that we mooched from somewhere. Today I actually had to hit a cafe and PAY for it. Egads!
Anyway, we are here and I am beginning to decompress (this triple espresso I have next to me probably will not help that though). The trip was excruciating. It was the LONGEST it has ever taken us to get here. I thought P was going to leave me at a Mickey D's when I had to pee for the 3rd time and only because he was driving did I not hit him over the head with a heavy object.
But, we are here and it is lovely, a tad warm but lovely. Today I woke up at 7:30am took the dog for a walk, did some yoga and wrote a blog entry. Unfortuantely, I can't open said entry b/c I am using my Mom's Mac and she has does something to the desktop memory. Whatevs. Yeah, I said 'whateves'.
Tomorrow, Sue from over at As Cape Cod Turns, and I will be getting together. I need to give her a call. I also need to figure out what to cook for dinner tonight.

Crackberry still delayed
Yeah. Still in the car bored off my butt. We've been singing old hight svool stuff which is humorous especially when other people in traffic see it. Check my Twitter and you'll see what I mean. I think I may have inadvertantly flashed a trucker or two as well. The ole GPS says we should arrive at our destination at 9:21pm. *sigh*
Crackberry Will Be Delayed
I am going to attempt to take a pic from the road and post it. We'll see how that goes.
I am tying up loose ends here in the office and will be out of here ASAP. I need to hit Lottery Yarn for my oh so grand paycheck then home to pack the car.
I plan on blogging while I am on vaca and the posts may be dreamy or a little off depending on the state of mind I am in or the state of inoxication. :) I'll be trying to Twitter too.

My Island Part I
I am a pretty impatient person. I can also be quite judgemental...but it takes some really stupid, awful HAM (hot ass mess) people to make "My Island".
My Island is a place where I imagine I can place the idiotic, stupid, no common sense people (mostly celebs and politicians) that I really don't feel like dealing with anymore. When I say, 'deal with' I mean not be smacked in the head in the grocery check out line by insane headlines or just plain invade on my consciousness. My office mate and I seem to discuss this more than I do with other people for some reason. He'll say, "Is that person on your island?" and I'll think about it before giving an answer.
I am very selective about who is sent there and I wonder what their interactions would be like. It's like my own version of The Simms. Would Brittany and K-Fed get back together if they were there (by the way, the kids are innocent so they don't go)? Would Rick Santorum (politician with a bad column in the Philadelphia Inquirer) find anyone to preach his no logic religious, nazi-like crap to? What would Amy Winehouse do without a good salon and caring dealer? Would Lindsay Lohan be able to live with out leggings and would she strike up a relationship with Amy Winehouse just to piss of Rick Santorum? Jamie Lynn is on the stand by list for the island. I am still on the fence about her. If she is just stupid, that is one thing. She needs a few more points to get her there.
I am not a mean person, there would be food drops every now and again along with the proper medications to keep nasty infections from spreading to the animals that might be there. Trust me when I say I think the animals are smarter than the humans so I think they would most likely stay away from the campsite. They would be provided with reading material and as long as they didn't try to wipe their butt with it or roll it up and smoke it, they would get more.
I would like to tell you more stories about My Island and there will be more. I just thought I'd give you a little intro today. Got people you'd like to place on an island. Feel free to make up your own as well. We all need to compartmentalize sometimes to get through the day.

An Evening in the Garden
So as you saw by my post yesterday, the evening went very well. Everyone had a wonderful time and we over bought on the booze so I got to take a bunch home. :)
The event was titled, An Evening in the Garden and it was held at the Morris Arboretum. Please check out the site sometime. It is a beautiful place. It was essentially a little gathering for my bosses, financial advisors, to thank their clients for their business and to get new business by clients bringing guests. Got it? The theme was also about going green (of course) and so I tried to be as green as possible with the preparations; no plastic glasses, no paper plates, recycled materials for decorations and takeaways. There were garden tours and guests could wander in the gardens when they wished. We had the whole place to ourselves.
Ok, here's the scoop on the pics you see in the slide show. You either have to click or double click to see the show with the captions. The centerpieces I made with mason jars, kraft paper, blue raffia and 150 zinnias I cut myself the morning of the event. The pic I took of the centerpiece at the event didn't do it justice but I had a lot to do. I took a pic of the bar area so I could mention that we had a special signature drink, it was a hibiscus tea mojito. It was kinda the color of the flowers and it was SO good! We had regular mojitos as well. They used cut sugarcane as stirrers for each drink. We also had an open bar. The food was FABULOUS too. We had a large antipasto table with olives, cheeses, tapanade, sardines (I think P was the only person that ate those). We also had butlered HDO's, spiced scallop on a rice cracker, flat iron steak with chipotle butter on a baguette slice, veggie spring rolls and shrimp.
The takeaway bags had directions on how to sign up for paperless account information and also had a fax back to us for people that are interested in doing a fall clean-up in Fairmount Park (Philly's Central Park but ours is bigger). There was also a retirement planning book that is actually kinda fun to use and a potted herb; Sage, Rosemary, Thyme or Lavender.
All in all we had a little over 100 people at the event. It went VERY well and everyone had a great time. As soon as I got there and saw that my wonderful caterers had everything under control, I relaxed a bit and was able to enjoy myself at the actual event even though I was still doing the work thing. So, enjoy the few pics I thought to get.

Crackberry a Day Late: A Window into My Stress
So my lovely bloggy friend Carrie mentioned in my comments that she'd been looking for my Crackberry Friday pic yesterday. I did not post one and believe me, I was not feeling good about it either even before she mentioned it. So I will post a few pics to illustrate what I still have to do for this event on Sunday which is why I have been more lurker than commenter.
The first one is a pic of the liquor and beer we bought for the event. No, I have not dipped into it yet. Also are the bags for the take away and other items for decorations.
The second one is the reason I was driving most of the day yesterday. I had to drive to Reading, PA to get my herbs for the take away bags, there are 60 assorted potted herbs. BTW, if you are ever in the Reading area or are traveling on the PA turnpike, visit Kathy at Deer Creek Farm. She is a lifesaver and an absolutely lovely person.
The third is a tiny portion of the flowers I need to cut on Sunday morning for my centerpieces. They are zinnias.
They will be put in Mason jars then wrapped with brown craft paper (so they won't look like mason jars, and tied with raffia. I need to cut 130 at least of them at Maple Acres Farm in Plymouth Meeting, PA. They sell them 10 for $1 if you cut them yourself. :)
So, although this might not seem like a lot, this was all Friday. Today, I will work on the jars for the centerpieces but can't put flowers in them until tomorrow. Also I can's put the bags together until tomorrow b/c I will probably need to water the herbs one more time. I might rethink that one. Oh, also, my yoga teacher is having an event to inaugurate her new studio. I can't not go. I am already skipping the Vegan potluck (which I really actually wanted to go to).
I will take pics tomorrow evening of the event and hopefully, I will still be standing when it is all over. :)
PS - Today's contest clue. "You slip on them."

Fifteen La's
This was the other name I had in mind for my blog. It's obscure, yet believable. It comes from a song of my youth and I bet YOU can't figure it out.
Does it sound like a contest? It is a contest.
What does the winner get?
Cookies. Fresh baked then mailed cookies. You can choose from:
Heath-bar Chocolate Chip
Chocolate Chip
Oatmeal Rasin
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip
I will also make vegetarian cookies if one of my veggie bloggers wins.
Imagine, you not having to bake cookies in the heat but still having cookies! I will do it for you.
Here is how it will work. I will continue giving clues each day till someone gets it. I'll also post regular stuff. Who ever hits my comments with the correst answer, Wins!
Clue 1: In Philly you had to be up very early to catch this one.

Getting Worse
Where am I? Not at my desk, not running errands, not in bed. I am at a Honda service center b/c my a/c is acting up. Thought the problem was solved yesterday but no. This was the LAST thing I needed this week. I wanted to cry when I woke up this morning. So here I am, headache brewing, lists flying around in my head and totally wiped out. Please send bloggy good vibes my way!

WARNING: Expletives in this Post
I almost shit myself today.
No joke. I could totally feel my intestines tightening and pressurizing. I worried about the fact that I have on khaki pants, cotton undies and I would not have time to go home and change before my shift (look how close those two words are in their spelling) at Lottery Yarn. I worried about the fact that my car already smells b/c of the water leaking from my A/C on to the carpet and the inhuman humidity and temperatures not allowing it to dry without mildew. The panic was about to come out of my ass and I was trying my best to hold it in.
The person, and I use that term loosely, I am dealing with where the event is to be held tried to tell me it could not start until 6pm. My invites say 5pm. My catering contract says 5pm and my property contract says I have it from 4pm to midnight. This is not my first issue with 'her' and it's 5 days before the event.
Tension builds, there were words exchanged, heated at that, and in swept my angel, Toni (cue gleaming lights and angelic 'aaaaaahhhhhhh'). He is the co-owner of the caterers I am using, Jeffrey Miller Catering. He flew in and made it all ok. We are back on track for a 5pm start.
I still have to work tonight but I just might make it though the day now without killing anyone or shitting myself.
Oh, and I am out of Prozac.

Batten Down the Hatches
I hope that is the right word. This week is going to be crazy insane for me so I might not be around too much or able to comment too much. Our firm is hosting a small event on Sunday and I have a lot to do. It is a client appriciation event and it is at an arboretum close by. It should be a nice event I just am a huge worrier and want it to go according to plan. Not to mention, there is a TON of paperwork involved too.
There is a bright spot. A week from event, I will be on vacation. I just have to keep reminding myself of that.
Wish me luck!

Crackberry Friday: Patriotism in a Surprising Way
Double click to see in the best way. Merci.
Yes, I know what you are thinking. How could you post about the French today!?
Well, because if it wasn't for them we'd all be speaking English... wait, bad example
Ok, we'd be beholden to a monarchy, still not the best example...ummm
Anyway, there are plenty of reasons to be glad today that we did come out on top during the Revolutionary War. As much as there are things we may not like about the way our country is run, at least we are allowed to say so. So even if you are not crazy about the French, don't pigeon-hole them all and remember, essentially, we are part of the reason that Marie and Louis went to the guillotine (them giving us all that money and armed forces during the war and all, helping their country into bankruptcy and BTW MA did not say that thing about cake).
Anyway, this is The French Bakery. It is not a bakery really although they do have baked good there (almond croissants...mmmmmm). It is a little place in Chestnut Hill that Peter and I used to go on a weekly basis. They serve the same things year after year. It is EXACTLY what you would expect a tiny neighborhood bistro in France to be. Paul and Marianne have been running it for over 20 years. They always sit down with us between customers, trade gossip or talk about what they have been up to. We had them to our New Years Eve Party one year. They were the oldest people by about 20 years but they seemed to have a great time.
I think there are many things in there that have not been touched in over 20 years and that is part of the charm. In 1995 they were named Top Minuscule Eatery in Philadelphia magazine. Today I had "George's Special" which is only special because they only serve it during the summer. It is a shallow bowl filled with gazpacho and a scoop of crab salad in the center, served with slices of cornbread. P had quiche Lorraine, gazpacho and a salad. We are now home and I need a nap from my lovely brunch. Enjoy your 4th!

Fireworks
Right now people are setting off illeagal fireworks on the golf course next to our home. It's far enough away that I really don't mind. People do it every year.
What is it about fireworks that make us ooo and ahhh? I think it is different for different people. For some people it's the beautiful sky display, for others the noise invokes a spirit of patriotism, for me, it's everything else.
What does that mean? Have you ever watched the world around you during a fireworks show? Have you ever looked around you, besides up at the sky to see what the world looks like under exploding light? It is amazing. The colors and the light make everything appear so ethereal. The light is never harsh like say a fluorescent bulb or beating like the sun. It is a soft glow that brightens and then fades, then replaced my another. When you couple that with the inner glow of the faces watching the show, the world seems a very different place.
I think you have to have the combination of the people glad to see the display and the light together. When you see the fireworks displayed by a bomb or other type of explosion, where fear is coupled with the same type of light, there is a grotesque look about the people. There is no glow. It's almost like there is a black hole, sucking the light in but not letting it out.
This holiday weekend, take a look around you as you view the show. Look at the glow in the faces and the earth around you, enjoy it, revel in it. Try to figure out how to make it last.

Under Construction
Please excuse the messiness of my blog. I was trying to update it myself. I have now enlisted professionals to help me. Also, don't yell at me for the ads. Mama needs some new shoes.
MacGyver Moment
So the receptionist asked if I could log the mail in today b/c she was having car issues. Of course I said yes, there's a $20 in it for me when I do. :) So the mail was really late today. I went downstairs about 3 times, waiting for the mailperson to finish loading it up into the boxes. Finally, I went into the mailroom b/c it sounded like she was finishing up. Turns out, the key that locks up one of the sets of boxes was stuck in the lock. There were 3 of us trying to get it out. Finally I asked, "Do either of you have a pencil?" The one office worker said, "Oh, because of the lead?" Ok, most of us DO know they don't use lead in regular run of the mill pencils these days right? "No", I said. "Graphite is a lubricant. If we can get a little bit of the graphite in the lock, it might help." So the mailperson happens to have one in the truck. The office person kinda smirkingly asks "Well how are you going to get it in?" I say, "I am just going to try and grind the point into where the lock meets the key." So I go ahead and do it. Blow on it a little, getting the little bits into the lock and then try again. Presto! Key out of lock, all it well in the mailroom.
As I was writing this, I realized that some of it sounded vaguely dirty. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I'd Like to thank The Academy...
Yea! An award!
Thank you to Sidney at Sidz Kidz and Other Musings for passing on this lovely award.
Now I get to pass it onto 5 people that I think are worthy. Here are the rules:If you already have the award just accept and that's all you have to do.
1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contribute to the blogging community, no matter what language.
2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog to be visited by everyone.
3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that presented her/him with the award.
4. The award winner and one who has given the prize have to show the link "Arte y Pico" blog so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5. Show these rules.
So, here are my choices for blog awards and I wish I could give them to everyone!

Codes
Me: Do you have hockey this week?
P: Let me check (looks in crackberry).
Me: I am really glad to see you are keeping all your stuff in there now. Now if I ask you about what your schedule is you will actually know.
P: I know. It's a big help. The only problem is when I want to put something in there that I don't want people at work to see. I have to come up with codes.
Me: Codes?
P: Yeah. Like if we have a night planned to play Halo, I have to put in a code word that I understand but work wouldn't so they won't think it's weird.
Me: Uh-huh. (looking at P like he's weird)
P: My Halo code is 117.
Me: Dare I ask why? (
P: Well Master Chief was part of a group of Spartan supersoldiers that all died and he was the only one left. His number was 117.
Me: Uh-huh....so if they know you play hockey and soccer that's ok?
P: Yeah, that's normal to most people.
Me: Do you understand what you just admitted to?
P: (looks at me and blinks)
Me: So anyway, do you have hockey this week?
