This is Important

What Got Cut from the Stimulus Bill

I realize that the country is split on this bill but I thought that it was important that you should know what our representatives in DC call 'fluff' or 'pork'. I will not go through the entire list because the article is pretty self explanatory. I just want you all to remember that these are things that they considered 'wasteful spending', period, not just for this bill.

$98 million for school nutrition
- I guess our kids can continue to eat preservative laden, cheap food from China.

$200 million for National Science Foundation + $100 million for science
- Well we all know how most of the conservative right feel about science.

$16 billion for school construction
- I guess we can continue to educate our children in outdated facilities. Maybe it will just make them work that much harder.

$65 million for watershed rehabilitation
- Polluted water isn't all that bad. It's not like we are going to run out of clean water.

There are some things in the bill that I agree should have been cut but this list and the things on it that should not have been cut are an indication that many of our representatives, regardless of party affiliation, don't have a clue what we need in order to make our country a better place. They are not about looking forward, they only want a quick fix. While I realize that the many view the stimulus bill as just that, a quick fix, if the money had been put into education for the future, it would have kept us on the right track for decades to come. Instead, once again, it's those that come after us that are going to suffer.

Very good points.

It's all about the fight between conservatives and liberals ... and it gets tiring after a while ... they don't even care about what's best for the country ... just what's best for their party.

I agree, it's sad :(

Sounds like the same people are voting in Congress as on our local town board. The school comm (me) is in a fight for a $500,000 deficit and you would think we were asking for the right arm of every pitcher from the Red Sox. Very annoying!!!

I don't agree that this stimulus bill is a quick fix, by any stretch. It's supposed to be for the middle class - the ones who are losing jobs & homes. How is removing sales tax from big purchases going to help someone who doesn't have the money to buy those big things or cutting interest rates for refinancing when the family can't afford their monthly payment at all because they aren't working? (you can see I pick out what I see in the forefront of my community)

It still just politics. That's all it will ever be. *sigh* Great points & I know this spending cut from the bill is much needed.

I sure hope that something good comes of this whole thing! Just today I found out that I will no longer have my perfect part-time job after April. So I guess my family will need a little bit of economic stimulus as well!

Because I'm so over politics and have resorted to pleas to God (as in, "Please help this country!"), I stay out of the political loop. It's better, for me, that way. So I asked my husband, "Where are we getting all these bojillions to pay for this bailout?"

He looked at me and said, "Our grandchildren."

Frightening. We need help. I know it. So I'm not against it. But I am against the "fluffy" pork. Not bacon, of course...but stuff like millions for the entertainment industry. Paris and Lindsey are providing entertainment for FREE! Yes, it's tacky and questionable, but still...FREE!

Seriously.
