Today I am 36!

It is my birthday today. :) I know, I don't look a day over 35. We are going to dinner tonight with my Mom and brother, T. I am looking forward to it. However, we are also celebrating at another restaurant with friends on the 26th at Talula's Table. Google it...seriously. There will be a X.X.X rated food p.o.r.n post after that dinner.

My birthday does not bother me. Turning another year older, heck we all do it. Not a big deal. You know what IS a big deal? Being in another demographic. You know those surveys that ask what your age range is? Yeah, I am in the next bracket now. That is a little disconcerting. Next I'll be getting AARP newsletters (no offense to those of you that do but I am SURE the first one was a shock to you). I don't feel old. I play football, I watch Sponge Bob (I have to post on this soon), I mean that has to mean something, right?

Maybe not.

My Dad watched Looney Toons pretty much up until he passed away (57). I think he would have enjoyed Sponge Bob. My Mom is like a teenager dating again (61). Maybe I inherited my young at heart qualities from them.

Sometimes, I think you have to work at being young at heart too though. Remember as a kid sneaking on to golf courses to meet up with friends and do generally teen things? Well we live next to one. I don't call the cops on the kids but part of me thinks I should. The part that thinks I should worries about them. The part that doesn't want to call the cops, wants them to enjoy their fun in a wide open space. Does that make sense? Then there are the times that when you do make that choice to be young at heart and it feels amazing. The simplest thing can bring you so much joy; swinging on a park swing as high as you can, dancing around your room to a favorite song, jumping in puddles, running in the rain. Maybe that's part of what getting older means, you have more choices about how you keep yourself young and learning new ones just makes your life so much fuller.

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy biiiiirthday dear Scargosun....
Happy birthday to me.

Happy Birthday!!!!
I'm sure glad your 36 today because I don't think I could have stood another day with a 35 year old "IF"!

See, I may be forty, but I'm still hip.
"IF"..."Internet friend"

Enjoy your day : )

HBTY, Miss America - I really enjoy your Blog and it's becoming very thought provoking of late.

I am going to Google that newsletter thingy you mentioned as I am not sure what that's all about.

Was the meal out good?

Happy birthday dear one, sorry I haven't visited much of late. Thank you for commenting so much on my blog.

Like you, I feel like I am getting more young at heart as I get older. I am now 37, 2 years older than the official upper limit for reading Cosmopolitan magazine.

I wouldn't tell on the golf course kids either, for the same reason that I don't complain when the students downstairs have a party into the wee small hours. A big part of me wants to join in and have the same fun they are having.

I am so sorry your dad died at 57, that's really young. It's wondeful that he was so young at heart, though. And your mum is dating, good on her.

Enjoy your day, special one. You deserve it.

Happy b-day from a stranger.

My wife's father passed away nine years ago. Two years ago my MIL remarried. It was very strange watching her date. The couple was very gigglie - almost to the point of driving us a bit nutty. He's a nice guy, but the giggles didn't continue as much - thank goodness.

Happy Birthday!

Two birthday dinners planned, you rock!

I love that you don't call the cops on the teens on the golf course. Unless they're doing dangerous stuff, let them have fun. Too soon we all have to grow up, but I agree, let a bit of that little kid live, go swing or run through a sprinkler. Very nice thoughts!!

Great post, and I really hope you have an awesome birthday!

BTW, I can't stand Sponge Bob. I don't know why...I think it's his laugh. It drives me nuts. My boys love him though. :o)

Happy Birthday! I turned 38 this year. And I started getting AARP newsletters. And seniors driving awareness letters. It's just wrong! I want to know how I got on those lists. On the other hand - my husband, who is the same age - gets Pottery Barn teen catalog, forms for Highlites subscriptions, and Sports Illustrated for kids. And he still gets carded. Life is so unfair :-)

Happy Birthday! Yes, we all get older and I love it when people don't whine about it! Yippee for you!

That is so cool that your dad watched cartoons. David watches cartoons with the kids and often quotes obscure phrases from unpopular characters (like the old sea hag in Little Mermaid).

I know exactly what you mean about demographics because I answered a bunch of questions and according to them I was lumped in with the old geezers all the way to 65! I am only 50! What have I got in common with THOSE people?

Try to catch up? That's OK. I walk really slow.

The only drawback to aging is the body getting older before your mind does, lol. My motto has always been "You're only young once but you can be immature forever".

I still don't call the cops on neighbor kids when they have parties, unless they start getting into fights or getting beyond loud. The neighbor's son behind us came over one day after his high school graduation and thanked me, lol. That kid partied like there was no tomorrow but they were always careful to keep it down to a low roar.

Your Dad sounds like he was a hoot. I'm sorry you lost him so young, but at least you had him until then.

Don't you just love tiered birthdays?

I hope you always choose to dance....
