Smells Like Summer

So about 4 or so months ago I made a TON of pesto and froze it. We had some tonight after not having it for awhile and when I deforsted it the scent of late summer smacked me in the head like a wayward beach umbrella. I then opened up a bottle of Savingion Blanc and had a similar experience.

Scents have always been a big thing for me. Do you ever have one of those moments when you smell something and it's like a wave just washes over you? The wave contains thoughts, emotions, memories and every bit of an experience that you might have forgotten but could all be brought back less than a blink of an eye? I litterally feel like the wave hits my whole body, blowing back my hair, clothing and the inertia might even make me take a step back. I think that is my most favorite feeling in the world.

Awesome!
I remember whenever I smell honeysuckle plants it brings back memories of my grandparent's house in North Carolina.

I SO know what you mean and I love it when it happens.
The smell of a new wool hat always makes me think of my dad :)

I don't remember where, but I once read that smell was the sense most tied to memory, so that makes sense.

Oh yes, I love that too.

The smell of fresh paint reminds me of a new term at nursery school. The smell of freshly mown grass reminds me of summer.

How clever of you to freeze a summer smell and then defrost it in the depths of winter. It's just like summer in a can.

I love smells!!! Well unless they are a skunk or wet dog. It's so weird how they can totally transform you!

I know just what you mean, and oddly pesto is one of those smells for me. My parents used to make it in batches too, and the smell reminds me of home. I love it :)

Hi you! I remember that pesto post weeks back! You're enjoyment was clearly total, and it was good of you to share the reminiscence of summer and let us all take it in too!

I have that wave of emotion everytime I smell my mom's Christmas cookies ... It takes me back to when I was a child.

I know exactly what you're saying.

My scent lately, however, is not a pleasant one but it does bring back pleasant memories.

The smell of our cafeteria dish water brings back the memories of me working at Disney World my senior year of high school. I worked at a restaurant in the Magic Kingdom and I always had to go back to the dishwasher area to get get clean glasses so I would always smell the dirty dish water.

Weird, I know, but relevant.

I smelled my husband's dirty sox on the bedroom floor this morning, but that just pissed me off.

I forgot about all your frozen pesto, made from ingredients at the fabulous farmer's market.

I still want some. With white wine.

Get this...I have my grandmother's china cabinet and buffet...she's been dead almost 14 years, but these pieces still smell EXACTLY like her. When I'm having a bad day I literally open up the china cabinet and take a big whiff...'cause I'm all sentimental and sappy like that.

scents bring back some memories, but not as much as music. Elton john, led zepplin, and pink floyd really brings back childhood flashbacks.
