Are You Happy?

Jenna over at Eat, Live, Run asked this simple question today. To be honest I might not have answered it if there had not been a contest involved. ;)

Why?

I am not usually a very optimistic person. I often look for hurdles and stuff that has to be done rather that stuff that makes me happy. Today though I thought about the question for less than about 2 seconds and I was able to answer, "Yes!". What is funny is I did not really think about if I was or not, I just knew that at that moment, I was not unhappy. It was almost a reflex. When I did think about why, I came up with really simple things.

1. Gorgeous weather this morning (doggy walk and my run and sunroof open on my drive to work)
2. Yummy breakfast (more overnight oats)
3. Lunch at Whole Foods, outside, in said gorgeous weather very soon
4. The smell of soup cooking last night reminding me of fall

I stopped at that because the hurdles were trying to creep into my thoughts. This just reminds me to think more in the moment. I don't mean abandon all sense of planning for the future by blowing all my cash on a trip to Anguilla (would be nice though). I mean live in the moment in small ways; a good breakfast, a good sleep, doggie kisses and good cooking smells from my kitchen. I have worries, but maybe I don't have to worry about them 24/7. That might take some effort on my part but the way I am feeling makes me want to start.

Little Things: Raisin Bread Toast

I bought some raisin bread at the West Chester Growers Market last week from Big Sky Bread Company. Mom and I split it and I have had it in the fridge all week. This morning I had a craving for it so I took out 2 slices (oooo! has some chopped nuts too!) and put it in the toaster (which is awesome by the way. Thank you Consumer reports). I even indulged in a little butter. OMG! It was heaven. They were perfectly toasted and the bread was a treat without being too sweet.

I need to remember to pay attention to little moments like this because it was by far one of the BEST things to happen to me this week.

The High School Flashback I will post in a little bit...

Things I Love

The new "Add to Wish List" button from Amazon. You can add stuff from any website (including Etsy, my bloggy artistic friends) to your Amazon wish list. This is like a flippin' dream come true for me. :)

MacGyver Moment

So the receptionist asked if I could log the mail in today b/c she was having car issues. Of course I said yes, there's a $20 in it for me when I do. :) So the mail was really late today. I went downstairs about 3 times, waiting for the mailperson to finish loading it up into the boxes. Finally, I went into the mailroom b/c it sounded like she was finishing up. Turns out, the key that locks up one of the sets of boxes was stuck in the lock. There were 3 of us trying to get it out. Finally I asked, "Do either of you have a pencil?" The one office worker said, "Oh, because of the lead?" Ok, most of us DO know they don't use lead in regular run of the mill pencils these days right? "No", I said. "Graphite is a lubricant. If we can get a little bit of the graphite in the lock, it might help." So the mailperson happens to have one in the truck. The office person kinda smirkingly asks "Well how are you going to get it in?" I say, "I am just going to try and grind the point into where the lock meets the key." So I go ahead and do it. Blow on it a little, getting the little bits into the lock and then try again. Presto! Key out of lock, all it well in the mailroom.

As I was writing this, I realized that some of it sounded vaguely dirty. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

It's the Little Things

that make your day...

My book from Amazon arrived today in one day instead of the two day I paid for. :)
